Hackamores are a great solution to controlling your horse without a bit. There are a variety of reasons you may want to use one. For example, if your horse has an injury that would be exacerbated by a standard bit, a hackamore will allow you and your horse to continue your rides in comfort.
Hackamores have a special type of noseband that works on pressure points on your horse's face, nose, and chin. Like a bit, a hackamore can be gentle or harsh, depending on the rider's hands. You may have heard a myth that a bit is cruel to horses and a hackamore is a gentler, but this is not true.
